Turning the eWrite “How Can I Help you?” experiment into a Wordpress Plugin

Posted on April 7, 2009, under General.

A few days ago Gordon Murray from eWrite, Cork wrote about an experiment, where he was grabbing the referring query from Google and displaying a “How can I help?” box at the bottom of the screen, telling the people to leave a message if they were not finding what  the wanted.

I have picked up the idea, which I think is great for welcoming random google-referred visitors and turned it into a Wordpress Plugin, which I will we releasing, as soon as my own alpha test is over.

Please tell me what you think of this functionality! Thanks!

Setting up my business in Ireland

Posted on Januar 20, 2009, under General.

After having arrived to Achill Island in February 2008, our first year was much about settling down. Finding a nice house, organising “our new life” here in Ireland and looking after my business relationships and clients in Germany. For 2009 I set myself a few goals, which included the increase of my local business activities.

eWrite, Cork

End of 2008 I had done some work for eWrite and it seemed a good opportunity to develop this relationship. So, a few weeks ago I went down to Cork to meet with the guys from eWrite and to attend the first Cork Open Coffee of 2009. It was an interesting two days, as I got to meet a few people that I knew from Twitter, which I had joined only a few weeks before.

My contact person at eWrite was Gordon Murray, I had briefly met him last year. As he has always been very supportive, I was looking forward to meet him again and to discuss the possibilities of intensifying our business relationship. I also got to meet John Fitzgerald of eWrite for the first time and we have been in eMail contact since.

Work I have done for eWrite include the Design of a website for Gerard Kearney – Close Up Magician and Browne Brothers – Site Services. At the moment eWrite and myself are working on a product bundle, that we will be developing and marketing together.

Open Coffee Club, Limerick

I have been asked to redesign the Blog of the LOCC (Limerick Open Coffee Club), a draft will be available soon and I will be travelling to Limerick to meet the people there.

Serving Local Businesses

So far I have redesigned the Websites of a company that does accounting anf tax consultanting in Castlebar, the Ferndale Fine Dining Restaurant & Luxury Guesthouse (Keel) and Ferndale Design (Keel)

Outlook for 2009

For the year 2009 I plan to attend the Open Coffee in the Innovation in Business Centre (IiBC) at GMIT Castlebar or maybe organise an Open Coffee in Castlebar. Furthermore the developement of a new Achill Island Website (achill-island.info) is planned.

Browne Brothers - Site Services

brownbrothers.ie was the second design we did for eWrite. This customer wanted a website designed to promote their landscaping services, including, General Landscaping, Maintenance, Hard Landscaping, Safety Surfacing and Play Grounds. They had no existing logo or preference for colours to use. They wanted the site to reflect their services and each page of the site to show an image in the background relating to their 5 areas of work. The site title had to be “Browne Brothers” with “Site Services” in smaller text. The title text had to be a strong font in green colour.

We were given no reference page and were to create  an open design, to include plenty of images of their work in the background or foreground. Preferred color was green.

Gerard Kearney – Close-up Magician

Gerard Kearney - Close-up Magician

Gerard Kearney is a magician and needed a website designed to promote his service. He is a close up magician providing entertainment at weddings and corporate functions. His typical interaction with a group is casual. There is no stage, he interacts with a group of people and spends a few minutes providing entertainment to the group by performing a few acts.

The request was for a basic, 1-5 pages design, which had to be dark,  mysterious and akin to magic, mystery and intrigue, using dark colours like black and grey. The website should be superior to websites of competing magicians.

The Website for Gerard Kearney was the first job for eWrite. Here we did the design and turned them into templates to be us used with eWrite Lite CMS
